Once you've built your web pages using a text editor, or some other Web Authoring software, you're then ready to transfer your pages from your computer to your Web Host. Your host has a computer called a Server. The server does what the name implies: it serves your pages to people who type your domain address into their browser or click a link pointing to your domain. If any of these terms are confusing, now's a good time to review previous chapters of this tutorial. Okay? Okay! Let's move on...
Huh? What the heck is that? Why do you need to know that formula? You don't. This is so easy I thought I'd bring in some confusion. Didn't fool ya for a minute, did I!
Transfering files between two computers over the Internet is done with FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software. Since you are moving your web pages (files on your computer) to another computer (your host's server), using the Internet as the transfer medium... ... you need FTP software. Often called FTP client software. Fancy, huh? A popular client you can download free is WS_FTP LE. Spend a little time getting familiar with it and you'll be in upload heaven in no time. http://www.ftpplanet.com/tutorial/dwnld_ftp_client.htm Another good one is FTP
Explorer: My personal favorite is
CuteFTP. Unfortunately, it's not free. But, I've become quite fond of the simplicity of
its interface, and just can't bring myself to switch. You can, however, download an
evaluation copy to use for 30 days.
That's it! You are now ready to upload!
