Customize and Monetize Your YouTube Channel
This entry is part 5 of 5 in the series How To Become a YouTube Personality

Set up a YouTube account and customize your channel to earn revenue.

As discussed in previous sections of this series, you should have your software and equipment and you’re now ready to create an account on YouTube. After account creation you can move on to creating a YouTube channel. If you are creating a channel with your business name, it’s a good to idea to connect your channel with your Google+ account.

You should have a pretty good idea of the channel contents, i.e., about section, cover photo, video content, etc., if you’ve started this series from the first planning step. Once you’ve plugged it all in, you are a YouTube personality!

Begin Video Production, Then Monetize

After you have started producing your videos you can start monetizing. You must meet certain criteria to monetize.  Be sure you read all conditions you must adhere to in order to monetize and review the payment methods before you opt-in.

Once monetized you are allowing YouTube to place ads on your channel. This is how you will make money from your videos. A portion of the ad revenue is paid to you – the publisher.

Build an Audience

With a focus on building an audience, or subscribers, you can garner more views and an increased percentage of repeat viewers. Build it and they will come – usually isn’t the best approach.

If you want to make the most out of your channel,  you need to optimize in ways that encourage people to view your productions and share them. If your videos are exactly the type of content people are looking for, proper optimization techniques will extend your reach even further.

Keep your account up and running by following the rules.

You will want to stay away from material that isn’t your own, and this includes copyrighted music. If you do use any copyright material you will need to obtain permission and cite your sources. If you don’t you could be subject to being banned and a subsequent fine.

Keep in mind that videos don’t produce income right away. In the beginning you are going to have to wait a short time before YouTube allows you to start placing ads. There is a brief waiting period while they check the video and verify no copyright materials are being used.

Time to get started!

Creating a profitable channel isn’t that difficult to accomplish. Publish what you know, provide real value to your viewers, present your material in a pleasing format, and you’re a YouTube Personality!
